...This is radically different... and a lot of fun!

The High School of Jewish Studies welcomes 8th to 12th grade students from the Western New York area. This includes students affiliated with synagogues and havurot, as well as those not affiliated with a particular Jewish institution or organization. The students embrace a wide range of personal approaches to Judaism and have the unique opportunity to meet Jews of various affiliations and to learn about, experience and understand the broad spectrum of Jewish practice.

A university-quality program of Judaic Studies imparting essential mastery of Judaism for the busy adult, conceived by philanthropist Florence Melton in 1980.
A school offering a systematic, written curriculum integrating Jewish practices, holidays, history, ethics, ideas and values using primary texts in English.
An international network of schools situated in 60+ cities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia with over 20,000 adult student graduates worldwide.
Melton is unlike any educational program you’ve seen before.  It is a unique approach to Jewish learning that integrates the needs of every student, from whatever background, so that Judaism is understood in today’s times.
It’s never too late to go back in time and discover the future . . . to learn about Jewish living.
Classes meet once a week for two years.  There are no prerequisites, grades, exams or homework.  Graduates receive a Certificate of Jewish Studies from Hebrew University and are eligible to participate in an optional seminar in Israel.

Binyan Leadership Track

Grade 10: Leadership and The Jewish Teen

This course will feature special guest speakers, hands-on projects, and a mini-unit that integrates the "Building Bridges" curriculum and will incorporate leadership games, intense discussions, and insightful activities.

Grade 11: Jewish Civics Initiative: JCI

“Participating in Jewish Civics Initiative has affected the way I think about the world…Judaism and myself.”

This is what we hear from students over and over again from students who have participated in the JCI course at the High School of Jewish Studies.

Taught by David Gordon, the JCI course  is an innovative year-long learning and training program that combines Jewish Values, public policy and community service.  The program culminates in a four-day seminar in Washington DC, bringing to life all the lessons taught throughout the year.

Grade 12: Tikkun Olam and Community Service

Students in grade 12 will design, coordinate and carry out a year-long service learning project. Participants can earn community service hours for their secular school, while encouraging in this exciting class.
